Club meeting - Guest speaker

Sharon and her husband Pete have been married for 38 years, have two grown children, a son-in-law and four grandchildren. In 2001, they moved from New Zealand to the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. They took up new vocations, Sharon into education both in the secondary and tertiary sectors. Sydney is where BeyondWater started. Faced with the fact that nearly one billion people didn’t have access to clean drinking water and two billion didn’t have any form of a toilet, Sharon became an advocate for some of the most vulnerable people on the planet. Little did they know that five years later they would end up leaving their jobs, uproot their family and move to a place they had only been to a couple of times - Kenya. Nairobi based since 2012, they continue to raise and train a team of nationals that multiply their work further. Through the work of BeyondWater over 320,000 people each day have access to clean water and sanitation facilities. These include schools, medical clinics and remote communities. They are currently in their 14th year of being based in Kenya. Sharon holds an MBA in Marketing, completed a Diploma in Photography in 2025 and also holds a Diploma in Mental Health Coaching. In her spare time she is an avid wildlife photographer, keynote speaker and mentors young people. Sharon is a member of the Rotary Club of Pohutukawa Coast in New Zealand (D9920). This year Sharon is travelling throughout Australia to share about the work of BeyondWater and how schools, clubs, churches and community groups can be involved in transforming lives.
